I have always been drawn to nature and wildlife as subject matter for my sketchings, drawings and paintings, and I continue to be fascinated and inspired by Mother Nature. At one point in time in grade school I started putting horns and wings on the horses I drew to give away to friends. In high school I filled the skies with dragons and phoenix. The fantasy genre has been my comfort zone for many, many years.

Now I lean heavily toward the Norse myths and gods for my inspiration where my drawings can be dark if I want them to be. But my dragons are fashioned after the benevolent creatures of the East and do not breath fire. They don’t hoard gold and treasure, instead they give it away to people who are kind. I guess I always hated the old paintings showing St. George slaying the dragon and decided to change that image!

Although I use acrylics, colored inks and colored pencils, my first love is pen and ink. I discovered the Rapidograph technical pen in 1987. With only lines, dots and hash marks I can create texture, depth and hint at colors in a black and white world…..or is it white and black? Check out “Hell’s Spider” drawn with white Prismacolor pencil on a black board. I really don’t know what inspired him…..but had to get him out of my mind and onto paper!
