Sharon Wylie has a long history of blending the intuitive with the analytical, both in her work as a consultant and in her oil paintings. She strives to reflect the complexities of human beings and the rhythms within light and shadow on both a conscious and unconscious level. The structure and discipline of her formal portrait work, while realistic, strives to reflect the emotions that lie behind the obvious. Her less formal work lets the viewer’s imagination create some of the story. The oil media provides discipline, structure and layers of color to express the energy within living organisms. It forces patience in our sound-bite, quick fix world.

“The challenge is always to use learned skills and techniques (that are available to anyone) to show more than a surface image. For me as a painter, this intent means always having more to see and more to learn, both in the painting and in understanding my subjects. It also provides constant reminders that accuracy is not always the same as truth.”
